Aspen Ideas Debate: “The war in Ukraine: A view from Kyiv”
Aspen Institute España hosted an Aspen Ideas session last Monday, February 5th on “The war in Ukraine: A view from Kyiv” with Ricardo López-Aranda, diplomat and current Spanish ambassador to Ukraine. The debate was moderated by Diego Herrero de Egaña, director of Development at Aspen Institute España.
Ricardo López-Aranda
Ambassador Ricardo López-Aranda is a career diplomat and the current Spanish ambassador to Ukraine. He has also been the Ambassador of Spain to Côte d’Ivoire and to Liberia. Among other responsibilities at the Spanish Foreign Service, he has been Director of Policy Planning and Director for Common Foreign and Security Policy. He also has been posted to the Political and Security Committee of the EU in Brussels and to the Embassies of Spain in South Africa and in Nicaragua. His publications cover the following topics: Strategic Foresight, Perspectives for the European Union and the West in a changing global order, European Security, Disinformation, and Africa.
Diego Herrero de Egaña
He has a varied professional experience in the private and public sector such as business associations, EU Institutions and Spanish Administration. He has participated in transnational projects in EU candidate and neighbouring countries, electoral observation missions and collaborated in numerous projects in the maritime and fishing sector at the national and international levels. He holds a “licenciatura en derecho” (LL.B. Degree) and a Master’s degree in International Development Cooperation.
Aspen Ideas Program
The Aspen Ideas Program aims to provide a forum for debate on current issues for emerging leaders from different sectors of society, many of whom have already participated in Aspen Spain programs. On the occasion of the publication of books or in the light of current affairs, we bring together groups of 30 people in debates with experts on geopolitics, new technologies, leadership, energy, or international economics. This Programme includes several session formats: Aspen Espresso, breakfast debates held between 9 am and 11 am, Aspen Ideas@Lunch, lunch debates held between 2 pm and 4 pm, Aspen Ideas Online, debates held in digital format, and Aspen Ideas Alumni, dinner debates held from 8.30 pm to 10.30 pm for Alumni who have participated in Aspen Seminars.
