Aspen Ideas “The End of the Economic World as We Knew It”
Aspen Institute España held the session “The End of the Economic World as We Knew It” with Simon Nixon, a prominent journalist specializing in international political economy, as part of the “Economy and Society” Series of the Aspen Ideas Program.
The session took place on June 5 at 9:30 a.m. and was moderated by María Sicilia, Strategy and Planning Director at Enagás.
Simon Nixon
Simon Nixon is an independent commentator and the publisher of the Wealth of Nations newsletter on Substack which focuses on European political economy and geoeconomics. He was previously chief leader writer and a columnist at The Times (of London) and before that chief European commentator at The Wall Street Journal where he was twice shortlisted for the European Press Prize for his coverage of the eurozone financial crisis. He is a regular contributor to Bloomberg, the Financial Times, the Guardian and Prospect magazine, as well as a columnist for Euractiv and Kathimerini. Before becoming a journalist, he worked in investment banking for five years. He has a first class degree in history from Trinity College, Cambridge University. He lives in London with his wife and four children.
Aspen Ideas Program
The Aspen Ideas Program aims to provide a forum for debate on current issues for emerging leaders from various sectors of society, many of whom have already participated in Aspen Institute Spain programs. On the occasion of book publications or in response to current affairs, the program brings together groups of 30 participants for discussions with experts on topics such as geopolitics, new technologies, leadership, energy, or international economics.
The program includes various session formats: Aspen Ideas Espresso, breakfast debates held between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.; Aspen Ideas@Lunch, lunchtime debates held between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.; Aspen Ideas Online, held in digital format; and Aspen Ideas Alumni, dinner debates held from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. for alumni who have taken part in Aspen seminars.
