Debate “Sustainable Development and Fair Social Growth”

 

Aspen Institute España will host, in collaboration with the Fundación Consejo España – EEUU,  a new debate on “Sustainable Development and Fair Social Growth. The debate will bring together a group of Aspen Institute Spain alumni and participants of the Spain-US Council Foundation’s Young American Leaders program with an outstanding professional career, interest in Spain and the potential to update their image of Spain, to transfer it to their spheres of influence. Following the Aspen method, the conversation will revolve around a selection of texts and will be guided by expert moderators who will involve and encourage the exchange of perspectives among the participants. The session will feature Teresa Cavero, an independent consultant in International Cooperation and Aspen Spain Fellow, and José M. de Areilza, Secretary General of Aspen Institute Spain and Professor at ESADE.

 

 

Teresa Cavero

Is an independent consultant with over 25 years’ experience in international development, specialized in policies and programmes related to the analysis and reduction of poverty and inequality, and with specific technical knowledge of rural development, climate change and resilience. She is member of Adelante Knowledge and Development network, advisor to Political Watch – CIECODE, and Aspen Fellow in Spain. Among other assignments, with Adelante K&D she has led the drafting of the Guidelines for mainstreaming the reduction of inequalities through development cooperation for the European Commission-INTPA and the corresponding indicators, and has worked for Oxfam on the analysis of multidimensional inequalities in West Africa, both thanks to the funding of the EU Inequality Research Facility managed by the French Agency for Development (AFD). She is currently a policy dialogue key expert for the EU funded Policy Forum on Development (PFD), an INTPA dialogue space on EU development policies with Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities. Previously, she was head of policy research at Oxfam Intermón (Spain) and Oxfam International´s campaigns on agriculture and climate change (GROW) and inequalities (EVEN IT UP) campaigns. Master’s degree on a Fulbright scholarship in Public Administration and International Development from the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University (MPAID 2004). Licensed as an agricultural engineer by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, holds a diploma in Tropical Agricultural and Rural Development from the University of Ultuna in Uppsala, Sweden.

 

José M. de Areilza

Is the Secretary General of Aspen Institute España. He is also a Professor at ESADE Business School and the holder of the Jean Monnet Chair at ESADE. He has been a Visiting Professor at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France, and London Business School and recently has been appointed Editor-in Chief of Política Exterior, a leading publication of international relations in Spanish. His areas of teaching and research are European Union Law and Politics and Power and Influence in Organizations. In 2014 he published the book “Law and Power in the EU” and lately he has co-authored two cases on Angela Merkel at INSEAD Publishing. He has worked as Advisor to the Spanish Prime Minister on European and North American affairs. He is a Trustee of the Spanish Naval Museum and a Member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. Since 2009, he writes a weekly column on international affairs in ABC, a national newspaper and is the editor of a blog on wine in the Iberian peninsula entitled “Iberians on wine”. Areilza received an LL.B. degree with Special Graduation Prize from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and holds a Masters degree (LL.M.) and Doctorate degree (S.J.D.) from Harvard University and an M.A. from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He is a Member of the New York Bar.

 

 

Colaboración Aspen Institute España y Fundación Consejo de España – EE. UU.

Over the last few years, Aspen Institute España and Fundación Consejo de España – Estados Unidos have jointly organized several discussion sessions and conferences on current issues around the transatlantic relationship and its future, focusing on economics, politics, sustainability, culture, education, energy or technology, among others. These sessions bring together young leaders from both sides of the Atlantic from various sectors of civil society, including business entrepreneurs, people from the public sector, academics, and journalists.
