Global Politics Program: “The European energy situation and its political implications”
Aspen Institute España brings together alumni from various editions of the Global Politics Program to discuss “The European Energy Situation and Its Political Implications.”
The session will feature Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri, CEO of Enagás, and will be moderated by Juan Moscoso del Prado, former PSOE Member of Parliament and Head of the Department for International Relations and External Action at the Economic and Social Council, Senior Fellow at EsadeGeo and Aspen Spain Fellow.
Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri
He joined Enagás as Chief Executive Officer in February 2022. Previously, he had been part of the Repsol team since 1990. There he held senior management positions including Executive Managing Director of People and Organization and General Manager of Communication, Institutional Relations and Chairman’s Office, being also responsible for the Audit, Control and Risk areas. In addition, throughout his extensive professional experience he has been responsible for Research, Environment and Quality. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the company from 2016.
In the public field he has been General Director of the Environment Agency of the Community of Madrid, General Director of Environmental Policy and General Secretary for the Prevention of Pollution and Climate Change in the Ministry of Environment, Government of Spain. He has also been President of the Spanish Committee of the World Energy Council and Vice-president of the Club Español de la Energía, of which he is currently a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. He has been awarded the Cross of Military Merit with White Distinction. He also has a recognized literary career. He has published four historical novels: El heredero de Tartessos (Imágica 2009, Evohé 2013), El cáliz de Melqart (Evohé 2014, Hislibris Award for Best Spanish Historical Novel 2014), La cólera de Aníbal (Evohé 2018, for which he won the Hislibris Award for Best Spanish Author of Historical Novel 2019) and Tras las huellas de Aníbal (Almuzara 2022). He has also translated travel books and published a collection of poems. He is a member of the editorial team of the collections El Periscopio and Intravagantes, of Evohé Editions.
Juan Moscoso del Prado
Juan Moscoso del Prado is head of the International Relations and External Action Department of the Economic and Social Council of Spain. Born on July 5, 1966 in Pamplona. Member of Parliament between 2004 and 2016 in the VIII, IX and X legislatures for Navarra (PSOE) in which he was spokesperson for the PSOE in the Economy and Competitiveness Commission and in the Joint Commission for the European Union. He was part of the Regional Executive Committee (CER) of the PSN-PSOE all that time and of the Federal Executive Committee (CEF) of the PSOE, between 2011 and 2014. In 2011 he was the PSN-PSOE candidate for mayor of Pamplona. Doctor (Ph.D) in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Master in Economics from the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium). Diploma in Economics from the University of Kent (United Kingdom, Erasmus Program). He has worked at the Economic and Social Council of Spain (CES) (1994-2004) and currently -economist in the Area of Studies and Analysis, Director of Cabinet, Head of International Relations and Deputy Secretary General of the International Association of CES and Similar Institutions (AICESIS)-.
He also currently directs the Entrepreneurship and Public Policy program at Deusto Business School. Previously he was Associate Professor of Economics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Department of Economics (1996-2004). Economist at Analistas Financieros Internacionales (AFI) (1993-1994) and before that at Banco Español de Crédito (Banesto) as an intern. He has also worked as an expert for the European Commission and the International Labor Organization (ILO). Fellow of the Aspen Institute Spain. Fellow of the German-Marshall Fund of the United States (2001). Trustee of the Spain-United States Council Foundation (2004-2016), of the Assembly of the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR) (2004-2012) and of the European Foundation for Progressive Studies (FEPS) until 2017, as well as of the Board of the Spanish Atlantic Association. He has published numerous articles on economics, international relations and politics and participated as a speaker at conferences in numerous countries. In 2008 he published the book Emprendedores y función empresarial en España and, in 2014 Ser hoy de izquierdas. He studied high school in Pamplona and in the United States. He speaks English and French.
Global Politics Program
This seminar is part of the Global Politics Program organized by Aspen Institute Spain as part of its commitment to democratic values and its mission to create spaces for dialogue. The program offers a pluralistic environment where participants can explore, over the course of a year, a broad range of topics such as geopolitics, ethics and leadership, and international economics. The Program fosters personal relationships among participants that go beyond political affiliations and are essential for building common ground and developing innovative solutions to the challenges facing our country. Its aim is to provide a forum for debate among individuals with a political vocation and a commitment to public service who have demonstrated leadership potential.
