“The Clean Technology Trilemma: Competitiveness, Security, and Decarbonization”

Aspen Institute España and Fundación Telefónica, hosted the first debate session of the IX Edition of the Tech & Society Program with Bianca Dragomir, director of Cleantech for Iberia, on June 12. The session was about “The Clean Technology Trilemma: Competitiveness, Security, and Decarbonization” and was at Espacio Fundación Telefónica (C/Fuencarral, 3. Madrid).

Clean technologies are the backbone of our climate action, but also the cornerstone of our economic competitiveness. In a context of climate and economic uncertainty—where technologies promising to solve the net-zero equation are advancing rapidly, yet global emissions are not declining—this event explores the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition. The session, organized in collaboration with Cleantech for Iberia, delves into the current state of clean technologies to identify key factors that will shape the path toward a carbon-free economy in the coming years.

Cleantech for Iberia, an initiative supported by Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Foundation, focuses on positioning Spain and Portugal as leaders in clean energy within the European Union, driving €1 billion in investments in sustainable technologies.
