Aspen Ideas @ Lunch- “The Future of Philanthropy”

On April 18, Aspen Institute España hosted a session of the Aspen Ideas@Lunch program, which featured Joshua Mintz, Vicepresident, General Counsel and Secretary of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

The session was called “The Future of Philanthropy.”

The Aspen Ideas @ Lunch Program is a forum for discussion on current issues for emerging leaders from different sectors of society, many of whom have already participated in Aspen Institute España programs. On the occasion of the publication of books or important events, it brings together a group of 30 people for a lunch discussion with experts on topics such as geopolitics, new technologies, leadership, energy, and the international economy.

Invitación Aspen Ideas @ Lunch

 

On October 25, Aspen Institute España will host a new session of Aspen Ideas@Lunch, presented by José Ignacio Torreblanca, director of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in Madrid and columnist for El Mundo, and moderated by Cristina Manzano, director of Esglobal.

The topic of this session will be “Democracy and the Media in Crisis?

Aspen Ideas@Lunch is a forum for discussion on leadership and public policies for leaders from different sectors of the society, many of whom have already participated in Aspen Institute España programs. On the occasion of the publication of books or important events, we bring together a group of 30 participants to discuss with the best experts issues such as geopolitics, new technologies, leadership, energy or the international economy.

José Ignacio Torreblanca (@jitorreblanca), Head of ECFR’s Madrid office and Senior Policy Fellow, was the first Head of ECFR’s Madrid office since the launch of ECFR across Europe in 2007 until June 2016 when he was appointed as Editorial Director of El Pais.

Cristina Manzano (@ManzanoCr) is director of Esglobal. She is a columnist for El Periódico de Cataluña, has a blog in the Spanish edition of the Huffington Post and is a frequent contributor to various media.

On November 27th, Aspen Institute España will host a new session of Aspen Ideas@Lunch, presented by Román Escolano, former Minister of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (2018) and Professor at CUNEF, and David Vegara, former Secretary of State for Economic Affairs (2004-2009) and Professor at ESADE.

The topic of this session will be “The Future of the Economic and Monetary Union”.

 

Román Escolano (@roman_escolano), Professor at CUNEF, was previously the Minister of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (2018), Vice President of the European Investment Bank (2014-2018) and chaired Instituto de Crédito Oficial (2012-2014).

David Vegara, Professor at ESADE and a member of the Board of Directors at Sabadell Bank, previously worked at the European Stability Mechanism as Deputy Managing Director (2012-2015) and at the International Montery Fund (2010-2012). Between 2004 and 2009 he was the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs.

On September 12th, 2019, we celebrated a new Aspen Espresso session, hosted by Fidel Sendagorta, diplomat, former Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School, and author of the paper “The Triangle in the Long Game“.

The topic of the session was: “The China, Europe, and U.S. Triangle: A New Era of Strategic Competition”. Jose M. de Areilza, Secretary General of the Aspen Institute España, moderated the session.

Aspen Espresso: “Upheaval: How Nations Cope with Crisis and Changes”

On November 20th, 2019, we celebrated a new session of Aspen Espresso, hosted by Jared Diamond, Professor of Geography, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Author, amongst others, of Collapse (2006) and the Pulitzer Prize winner Guns, Germs, and Steel (1997).

The topic of the session was: “Upheaval: How Nations Cope with Crisis and Changes”. Santiago Liniers, Program Director of the Aspen Institute España, moderated the session.
