The response of the European Union
Last Tuesday, April 21st, we organized our third Aspen Ideas Online, within the series of debates that we are organizing about our changing environment.
The session was titled “The response of the European Union to the economic crisis” and it spoke as a speaker Pablo García-Berdoy, Ambassador Permanent Representative of Spain to the European Union and former Secretary General of Aspen Institute Spain and was moderated by María Sicilia , Director of Strategy at Enagás and Aspen Spain Fellow.
Based on their reflections, a group of prominent businessmen, managers, politicians, senior officials, academics and representatives of the third sector discussed how the crisis caused by COVID-19 is being managed from the European Union, particularly in its economic aspect. During the debate, issues related to the possibilities and limits of European cooperation to face the crisis, what measures have already been implemented and what options are raised in the community institutions to continue fighting against the challenges that arise after the expansion of the coronavirus were discussed.
The speaker recommended several readings that we would like to share with you:
- Eurogrupo, Report on the comprehensive economic policy response to the COVID-19 pandemic
- Declaración conjunta de los miembros del Consejo Europeo (26 de marzo de 2020)
